Water level in 91 major reservoirs in country at 15 per cent

NEW DELHI: The water level in 91 major reservoirs in the country remained at around 15 per cent of their total capacity for the second consecutive week, Government said today.

According to Union Water Resources Ministry, 23.202 billion cubic metre (BCM) of water was available in these reservoirs for the week ending on June 23.

For the week ending on June 16, according to the ministry, the water available in these reservoirs was 23.786 billion cubic metre (BCM).

The storage is 46 per cent short of the stock available during corresponding period last year and 25 per cent less than the 10-year average levels for the same span of time, the ministry said in a statement.

The total capacity of these reservoirs is 157.799 BCM.

Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka have reported lower levels of water in major reservoirs compared to last year. (AGENCIES)
