JAMMU, Oct 6: Continuing his campaign to reach out needy and distress people of Gandhi Nagar constituency amidst COVID-19 pandemic to listen to their grievances, former minister and Congress leader Raman Bhalla today visited Nai Basti-Satwari area to listen their hardships being faced by them.
Inhabitants of the area put forward their grievances including hefty power bills, and unscheduled power cuts. While interacting with people, Bhalla was told that virtually all sections of society have been badly hit due to COVID-19 with no relief from Govt to weaker and vulnerable sections of society till date. No adequate arrangements have been made in the hospitals by the Government and people are suffering.
He stressed upon the people to remain vigilant against the political exploitation and termed the privatization of Power Development Department (PDD) as anti-people move of the government. Bhalla asked the government to put in public domain the entire roadmaps including fate of daily wagers, need-based and casual workers apart from the measures to protect the interests of consumers who are real stake holders. He lashed out at the Centre and J&K Government over being indifferent and insensitive to the woes of the people badly hit by COVID-19 pandemic.
Bhalla said Govt’s first and foremost priority should remain protecting the life and health of people of J&K and must be fully aware of the emerging situation. He urged all those who have been given relaxation to fully abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and not only enforce them on themselves but also generalize the same.
“They should not entertain any customer coming without a face mask, hand gloves and making rush or congestion”, he suggested.
Bhalla further said water crisis in Nai Basti area has aggravated as main Tubewell supplying drinking water to locals has been lying defunct for the last more than two months. Matter was brought to the notice of Administration but nothing has been done in this regard. Moreover, no effort is being made to supply water from other sources.
