Waste management

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Bio-medical waste being mishandled in majority of hospitals’ DE July 31. Concern by environmentalists over mishandling of bio-medical waste had been expressed earlier also.
Nothing seems to have changed as one can understand from this news report.
Mishandling of bio-waste could prove to be an environmental hazard. It may affect the lives of not only of people living here, but also of the animals who usually forage for food in dustbins and where waste has been dumped.
There are chances that rag-pickers may come in contact with it and prove quite devastating for them.
The hospital management(s) should have a proper mechanism in place to deal with the waste which is generated day and night in our hospitals across the State.
Yours etc….
