Stealing of infants

How can we expect that the stolen male baby born to Sharifa Begum, wife of Muhammad Mushtaq of village Narryan in district Rajouri, will be recovered and re-united to its parents when another baby stolen earlier on November 14, 2012 from the same (SMGS ) hospital remains untraced so far. Sharifa’s baby was stolen on the night of 31 Jan-1 February from the Eclampsia room situated within the labour room of the hospital. Yes, the Principal of Medical College has ordered inquiry into the theft, suspended two guards and also filed the FIR with the police. But the fact remains that authorities took no effective and preventive measures to prevent recurrence of such crimes in future. What is the job of the guards deployed in the hospital? They are supposed to keep an eye on doubtful movement of unwanted persons in and around such sensitive places in the hospital and medical college. Unfortunately they have miserably failed in their duty. It was also the duty of the hospital authorities to conduct surprise checks to ensure that security functions properly in the hospital. There is apprehension that baby-lifting mafia is behind such shocking crimes.  Parents and kith and kin of affected families have protested. They will protest even louder and why not. What is important is prevention of such crimes and not finding escape route by stating the efforts that have been made to recover the stolen baby. Yes, according to reports 16 CCTVs have been fixed to monitor what is happening in the hospital, in wards and corridors and other places. But first of all are these CCTVs functional? We have doubts. And secondly, if the CCTV shows an outsider woman moving in suspicious manner, her whereabouts are not traceable. Is it not an instance of utter negligence and dereliction of duty on the part of security outfit? Accountability needs to be fixed and exemplary punishment given to stop recurrence of such crimes.
