Waste Management

Sir
This refers to article  “Follow Indore Model” (Excelsior Dec 9th) by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat. People of Indore especially the Municipal Corporation of Indore really deserve an appreciation for creating a model of cleanliness and  sanitation for the entire country. I have read a lot of stories and news articles how Indore created a revolution under its dynamic Municipal Commissioner Manish Singh. The said officer was earlier posted in Bhopal few years back and he did a lot of work in Bhopal as well during his tenure. Infact Bhopal is also considered one of the top clean cities in India. Indore was declared cleanest city in 2017 Govt of India survey also called Swach Survekshan. Main thing which helped Indore to become India’s cleanest city was its Door to Door waste collection and on spot segregation of waste into organic and in organic . Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is yet to start this process and that is why we are lagging behind. There is not even a single ward in Srinagar or even in Jammu or any other town where waste is segregated in two bins and then taken to landfill for its processing. Our Municipal officers must visit Indore , Bhopal , Mysore at least which were declared top 3 clean cities in India during 2017 survey. According to the article SMC and JMC Commissioners  visited Indore recently and we hope they will start implementing good practices they have observed there.
Yours etc…..
