Pilgrim dies of cardiac arrest, another saved by Army

BHADARWAH, Sept 8: Warm welcome was accorded to the holy mace (Charri Mubarak) of ancient Kailash Kund Yatra, which reached back to Bhadarwah today evening.
Despite tough terrain and hostile weather conditions this year, 9053 pilgrims converged at high altitude Lake-Kailash Kund to have a dip in icy water of the holy lake during last three days of the annual Kailash Yatra.
The holy mace of serpent God, which started from ancient Nag temple of Gatha was joined on the way by half a dozen charris from different parts of the State including Bhalessa, Basantgarh, Bani, Duddu, Billawar, Nalthi and Mathola.
After having night halts at Hayan and Ramtund on September 6 and 7 respectively during 21 kilometer long stretch, the pilgrims today reached at holy Kailash Kund, where they had a bath in ice cold water of the high altitude lake to have blessings of Lord Shiva and Serpent God Lord Vasuki Nag.
The Kund is a big lake of cold and crystal clear water of 1.5 mile circumference and it is situated at the height of 14,700 feet from the sea level.
After performing the age old rituals at Kali Nag, Hayan, Gan Thak, Gau-peera, Ramtund, Shankh Padar and finally today at Kailash Kund, the holy mace reached back Bhadarwah today evening, where it was received by hundreds of enthusiastic followers of Lord Vasuki Nag at Vasuk Dera. The priests also distributed prasad among the devotees.
Meanwhile, a pilgrim identified as Kamaljeet Singh, son of Raj Kumar, a resident of Haddal Sartangle Bhadarwah District Doda died due to cardiac arrest while coming back from Kailash Yatra.
However, a pilgrim identified as Asha Devi resident of Bhadarwah suffered a cardiac arrest in midway while coming back from Kailash yatra. Without wasting time, Indian Army led by CO 4 RR Col DD Panday send a rescue team under a Junior Commissioned Officer Risaldar Ashok Kumar and Nursing Assistant Naik Pankaj Kumar to evacuate the patient at the earliest to Chattargala area base. The rescue team climbed the treacherous mountainous terrain with all life support medical equipments including oxygen cylinder and medicines and reached the incident site in next one and half hour.
Asha Devi was diagnosed with a heart attack and was immediately provided medical help and was also immediately given oxygen and medication and evacuated to Chattargala base after traveling a distance of 3.5 kilometers. The brave act of army saved the life of the lady pilgrim. The patient was stabilized and referred to the Sub-District Hospital at Bhaderwah in the ambulance where she was responding to treatment, when last reports came in.
