Waqf Bill should be in community’s interest: Azad

JAMMU, Feb 5: Former J&K Chief Minister and chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that Waqf Bill should be in the interest of the community for which it has been enacted.

Azad, who arrived here after a few months, was speaking to the media person. Former Union Minister said he was here in Jammu to meet the families of some of his friends, who lost their dear ones in the recent past.
” I could not visit Jammu for the past some time. I want to share the grief of some of my known families , who have lost their dear ones. Though this is not the right time to speak on some political or election issue, but I will try to reply some of media queries briefly,” Azad told waiting media-persons.
Replying to a question on the amendment in the Waqf Bill as proposed by the ruling party, Azad said, “I am not against the amendment but the new Waqf Bill should be in the interest of the community for whom it is enacted.”
When asked about the outcome of the Delhi Assembly elections, Azad said, ” Now a days, it is very difficult to predict anything in advance. All the parties utilized their all the resources and indulged in massive publicity in the electronic media. But it is difficult to say who will be able to form the Government in Delhi,” Azad said.
” Let us wait for the final day of counting, the result will be before you all,” the former J&K Chief Minister asserted.
When asked no political or other public activity of his party (DPAP) was visible in J&K after recent Assembly elections for the last about four months, Azad quipped, ” What the others are doing who are elected or even in the Government? Have you noticed their activities during this period”? Azad asked. On being asked how NC Government is performing in J&K, Azad said, “It is better for the people of J&K if they perform.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Azad visited Jammu after his party failed to perform and even grab single seat in J&K Assembly elections. His several close aides have already left the party and even a few of them contested as Independents in the recently held Assembly elections.
His another close associate, Taj Mohiuddin is joining Congress within couple of days. Taj, himself shared this development with the Excelsior.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Nabi Azad, today visited the residences of his senior colleagues Jugal Kishore Sharma and Vishal Chopra in Jammu to offer condolences.
Later, Azad visited residence of Shamsher Singh Manhas, former MP. During these visits, he prayed for the peace of the departed souls, demonstrating his commitment to supporting his colleagues during difficult times.
