Srinagar, July 19: A mega walkathon for unity against the growing drug menace was today organised from the iconic Clock Tower to Boys Higher Secondary School Batmaloo.
The event was held by the All Employees Joint Association Kashmir (AEJAK) and the All Sikh Minority Employees Association Kashmir (ASMEA). The event was led by Jagmeet Kour Bali, their Chairperson.
The walkathon was flagged off by SSP Traffic Srinagar Aijaz Ahmed and Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat.
Around 160 participants, including members of AEJAK and ASMEA, teachers, employees from education, agriculture, medical, revenue and other departments, along with 70 students and teachers of BHSS Batmaloo and several social activists, took part with great enthusiasm.
The event aimed to spread awareness among the public about the dangers of drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Jagmeet Kour Bali said the rise in drug addiction among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir is deeply worrying and we should not remain silent spectators.
She said religious leaders, civil society members, teachers and other organisations must play their role in keeping youth away from drugs.
She also urged the administration to strengthen rehabilitation facilities and ensure strict action against drug trafficking.
The rally concluded at BHSS Batmaloo with all participants pledging to work tirelessly for a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
