JAMMU, Apr 19: VRS given workers of J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) today took out protest rally towards Civil secretariat which was however, foiled by security men near Dogra Chowk here today.
The members of the All J&K SRTC Volunteerly Retired Employees Association, led by Dev Raj Bali assembled at the Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the SRTC management and Minister for Transport. They alleged that their pending arrears of COLA and 6th Pay Commission have not been cleared by the Concerned authorities. They also held Finance Department responsible for it.
The workers are struggling for the last about six years and the concerned authorities have failed to clear their arrears. COLA arrears are pending since 1999, 6th Pay Commissioner arrears from January 2006, moreover, pension benefits have also been denied to them.
As the protesting people moved towards Civil Secretariat, they were intercepted by policemen near Lower Gumat and were not allowed to move ahead. After little resistance, they dispersed.
