The Election Commission of India should find why out to allow defence personnel exercise their voting right. Due to nature of their duty, they are not in a position to exercise this right. Defence personnel who constitute an important segment of electorate have every right to participate in the democratic set up. Over the years to Election Commission of India has taken many laudable steps to ensure that the poll process remains transparent and credible.
This year voter awareness campaigns have been launched throughout the country to make people realize the importance of a vote. Only a good percentage of votes will lend credence to the poll process, otherwise in the past, when men and muscle power remained a dominant factor, election process often came under criticism. After a slew of reforms initiated by the Commission, people have started posing faith in election again otherwise, it was a shame exercise.
