The advisory issued by the Higher Education Ministry of Human Resource Development asking the State Government to vocationalise higher education is more than welcome.
In the present circumstances when there is shortage of skilled manpower in the market, and unemployment graph is rising, it would be better if the Government gives priority to vocationalisation of higher education. It is becoming increasingly difficult for students coming out of colleges and universities to get suitable jobs. With the result, there is frustration among these youth and they most of the time indulge in anti-social activities. There is urgent need to get this social issue redressed by framing a comprehensive education policy.
Though the State Government has taken cognizance of this reality but much has not been done in this regard. The Government must open well equipped polytecnics in almost every district of the State for providing training in various disciplines to students.
