JAMMU, Dec 19: Vichar Kranti Manch (VKM) International created a wing “Nutrition & Diet Awareness” among the masses. Its first session was inaugurated at Administrative office of State Bank of India (SBI) where in Pensioners of the bank participated.
Dt. Rishad Bano M.Sc (DFSM) DHNE, CFN, CNCC, wing Co-Ordinator, gave the balanced diet plan for Senior citizens. She advised the elders to take balanced diet, comprising of cereals, pulses, milk, roots and tubers, green leafy vegetables, fruits, sugar and fats / oil visible. She also explained them to adopt proper diet at bed time, breakfast, mid morning, lunch, evening, dinner and bed time.
General tips for senior citizens were also narrated as: eat a well – balanced diet and regularly timed meals consisting of a variety of foods, eat many different colors and types of vegetables and fruits, Include raw vegetables, salad, or raw fruit at meals to prolong eating times, choose whole- grain, high fiber breads, rice, and cereals to increase bulk, take simple but nutritious diet, take small frequent meals, avoid fried foods, take semisolid food and plenty of fluids, reduce total fats and refined reduce salt intake, avoid fasting, maintain good social and psychological environment for normal health, do regular physical exercise like brisk walking ( if can afford or go for walk ) and avoid inactivity, loneliness and social isolation.
