Visionary development plans needed for preservation of heritage: Baig

SRINAGAR, June 2: Asserting that Srinagar has always been a center of spiritual, political, administrative and economic activities, senior People’s Democratic Party leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig said that a visionary development plans with sensitivity towards preservation of heritage was need of the hour. He said this, while addressing a party convention at Hazratbal, today.
“We have to be heritage sensitive, when we talk about development of a city, which has been a center of knowledge and a meeting point of cultures. He said that the development of the city with special focus on preservation of its historic value and heritage will be the prime focus of his party, which will strive hard for achieving its goal.
There has to be a mega plan for its development but the plan must be futuristic, heritage sensitive and visionary”, he said.
Baig added that the unemployment has been one of the major concerns for the city residents as over the years the problems has grown many folds for various reasons. “We need to have a special target oriented employment programme with special focus on revival of traditional skill development”, he asserted.
Targeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his anti-PDP tirade, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig said that they were compelled to stay out of the Assembly as Chief Minister himself failed to uphold the dignity of the institution. Senior party leader Tariq Hamed Karra said that National Conference has always been a stumbling block for the development of State in general and Srinagar city in particular.
Party Chief Spokesman and MLC Naeem Akhtar, Altaf Bhukari, Mohd Ashraf Mir, Asiya Naqash, Abdul Raoof, Nissar Ahmed and Muhammad Sadiq were also present.
