UDHAMPUR, Nov 21: Up in arms against extremely bad condition of under construction road from village Chowki to Surkhi in Udhampur district, locals of village Surkhi protested against f PMGSY Department, here today.
The protesting villagers raised slogans against the PMGSY Department. They said that the people were suffering because of unprecedented delay in completion of this road work, which was to be finished five years back.
“The contractor didn’t complete the road from Chowki to Surkhi, about 9:500 km long stretch under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) number JK14-308. With an amount of Rs 318.38 lakh, this road work was started on 26-10-2011 and had to be completed by 25-10-2012,” they explained.
“Despite repeated complaints to the PMGSY Department and even in Mari Sadak app, no action was taken and these days the condition of road is so bad that we even can’t walk and sick old person, pregnant women are not able to reach Ramnagar hospital and district hospital Udhampur,” they further said adding there are large pits on the road, which pose threat of accidents.
The villagers threatened to gherao the PMGSY office if the road work is not completed at the earliest.
