LAKHANPUR, Jan 2: Expressing their anger and anguish over shifting of wine shops from Highway to their residential area, the villagers of Jagatpur held protest demonstration, here today.
Large number of villagers of the area assembled at National Highway at Lakhanpur, near RTO Office and blocked the Highway paralyzing the vehicular traffic. The villagers also raised slogans in support of their demand of shifting of wine shop to other place and not in their area.
Later, Tehsildar, Kathua Avtar Singh reached the spot and ordered closure of wine shop till further order, which pacified the agitators .
Then agitators lifted the protest which lasted for one and half hours. The villagers also warned the Government of dire consequence, if wine shop will be opened in their area. There was a huge traffic jam on the National Highway for several kilometers and commuters were put to many problems also.
