UDHAMPUR, Aug 19: Agitated over opening of a wine shop in the area, locals of village Tanori held a strong protest demonstration at Birma Bridge on the National Highway, here today.
Shouting slogans, the protesting people were demanding immediate closure of the wine shop, which is situated near  Birma Bridge on the National Highway. Alleging  that the wine shop was creating nuisance in the village and threat to peace in the area, they warned that shifting of wine shop there from another place near National Highway would not be allowed at any cost.
Threatening to intensify agitation if the wine shop is not closed, the villagers also appealed the District Administration for not granting any no objection in favor of wine license holder. A large number of locals participated in the protest demonstration.
Tehsildar Udhampur Dr  Javed Iqbal and SHO, Udhampur Sanjeev Gupta rushed to the spot and pacified the protesting people by assuring them to take up the issue with the concerned authorities. On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
