UDHAMPUR, Feb 3: Aggrieved over the extremely slow pace of work on Kirchi to Seojdhar PMGSY road, local villagers today protested against the district administration and PMGSY Department at Kirchi in Latti Marothi Tehsil of Sub Division Dudu.
Shouting slogans, the villagers were demanding immediate construction and black topping the road.
The protest was held at village Kirchi by the locals namely Girdhari Lal, Rakesh Kumar, Karnail Singh, Mohd Yousf, Ghulam Nabi, Dev Raj, Rattan Chand, Ramesh Kumar, Bushan Singh, Kasturi Lal and others.
The protesting villagers appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir (UT) Manoj Sinha to issue necessary instructions to concerned authorities for early construction of the road so that people may not suffer.
Even as the work on 36.25 kms long Kirchi to Seojdhar road was started in 2017, only six kms of stretch was constructed in the last five years. The road will connect Kirchi, Thildu, Chil, Kattiyan and Ghar Katyas. Due to unprecedented delay in completion of the work, locals are suffering. Pregnant women, elderly people and students are facing manifold problems.
The agitating villagers warned that if the road work is not completed as early as possible, they will launch indefinite and series of protests.
According to Pardeep Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Dudu, Forest Department was not giving permission to cut around 1200 big trees on this road because of which the process has been initiated for realignment of the road, which would be over soon.
