UDHAMPUR, May 15: Aggrieved over no supply of drinking water to the area for the last two months, locals of Panchayat Battal in Udhampur today protested against the Jal Shakti/PHE Department.
The protesting villagers, including women and children, raised slogans against the Jal Shakti department, which has allegedly failed to repair the fault in the pipe line with the result there was no supply of drinking water for the last two months. They alleged that despite repeated pleas by the villagers, neither the fault was repaired, nor the alternative arrangement was made for supply of drinking water.
In absence of drinking water supply, the villagers are depending on the natural sources of water. However the water from these natural sources remains mixed with grubby and mud, which has been causing intestinal problems in small kids and elderly people of the village.
The protesting villagers of Panchayat Battal and adjoining area demanded that drinking water should be provided through water tankers till the supply line is restored. At least three water tankers are required for daily supply to the area, they said and appealed the PHE authorities to immediately do the needful.
