UDHAMPUR, Mar 11: Up in arms against the extremely bad condition of the under construction road from village Tandal to Perowa Jagir in Udhampur district, locals of village Perowa Jagir protested against the PMGSY Department, here today.
A protest demonstration under the leadership of Advocate Sanjeet Bavouria, Chairman Jan Sangharsh Sanstha was held and the protesting villagers raised slogans against the PMGSY Department.
The villagers said that they were suffering because of unprecedented delay in completion of this road work, drains and retaining walls on the roadside while the farmers, whose land was acquired for the road have also not provided compensation for the last ten year.
“The contractor didn’t complete the road from Tandal to Perowa Jagir even after 10 years since the work was started under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY),” said Sanjeet Bavouria.
The protesting villagers appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir (UT) Manoj Sinha for a high level investigation in this work. “Despite repeated complaints to the PMGSY Department, no action was taken and these days the condition of the road is too bad,” they said, adding that large pits on the road pose a threat of accidents.
The villagers also threatened to gherao the PMGSY office if the road work is not completed at the earliest.
The protest demonstration was also addressed by Naseeb Chand, Krishan Chand Lamberdar, Suram Chand, Prabhu, Lal Chand and Sham Lal.
