KATHUA, Jan 20: Taking serious note of sale of sub standard sweets in Kathua villages a group of youth from village Budhi today stopped a van which was supplying the sweets to a shop in the village and checked the sweets being supplied in the vehicle. They were found of sub standard and manufactured in unhygienic condition.
On inquiry the suppliers said that they are from UP and MP states and were running their units at Hatli Morh and supplying sweets to sweet shops in Kathua villages and township also on cheap rates and later they sell the same on exorbitant rates to customers.
The villagers alleged that Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has failed to maintain check on such sweet sellers who play with the lives of the people. The suppliers said that they have no license of running the units form the concerned departments. The people demanded immediate action against the shopkeepers running their units illegally in the district so that the people are saved from their ill effects.
