UDHAMPUR, Sept 18: Demanding compensation for the damaged crop of maize due to incessant rains, villagers of Basantgarh area held a strong demonstration.
The villagers were led by Sarpanch Basantgarh, Manzoor Ahmad, Sarpanch Mong Saif-ud-Din and Sarpanchs of Sang, Panara, Soni, Raychak, Lodera and Khnare.
They were demanding immediate announcement of compensation for the damaged maize-crop in Basantgarh area.
They lamented that people in areas of Basantgarh, Sang, Panara Soni, Raychak, Lodera, Khnare and scores of villages where at the verge of starvation due to almost hundred percent damage to standing maize-crops. In these hilly areas people survive on maize which is the only ‘Rabi’ season crop and hence Government must come forward immediately to save people from starvation, the affected villagers demanded.
