Villager injured in ambush by bear

POONCH, May 7: A young villager was injured after he was ambushed by a full grown bear in forest area of Balakote in Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch district this morning.
Official sources said that mishap took place during early morning hours today when 30-year-old, Manzoor-ul-Haq, son of Abdul Qayoom, resident of Sandote village in Balakote, was going towards nearby forest with some cattle. Then suddenly, a bear hiding behind the bushes, attacked Manzoor.
The young villager grappled with the wild beast and raised alarm for help. He, however, fought with the bear with courage and made him to flee by his counter attack. Later, he was shifted to Balakote PHC and then referred to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar.
BMO, Mendhar, Dr Parvez Ahmed Khan said that Manzoor has suffered deep wound on upper side of his left arm and multiple wounds on his other parts of the body. His condition, however, was stable, the BMO added.
Meanwhile, the matter has been referred to the Wild Life Department by the village Sarpanch who conveyed that this bear has attacked many persons of the area and often reaches even in the village during night or early morning hours.
