Village temple committees of Kashmir demand passage of Shrines Bill

JAMMU, Feb 9: Management Committees of the different temples and shrines in Kashmir have demanded that the Temples and Shrine Bill be passed at the earliest.
Speaking at the meeting of the Tursts, care-taker committees, Management Committees, etc. of the different shrines and temples of Hindus of Kashmir spread over village, town and city areas of Kashmir under the auspices of Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust, they reiterated the consensus demand of the Hindus of Kashmir to have all the temples in Kashmir under collective management through an elected Shrine Board established under the Temple and Shrines Bill now pending before the State Legislature. This was stated in a statement issued by the Trust.
They made it clear that all the temples in Kashmir should be under the purview of the Bill. Various trusts who participated in the meeting organized by PNBM Trust, at Swami Atmaramji Ashram, Bohri included representatives of Vessu Welfare Committee, Ckak Rajwali Welfare Committee, Displaced Kashmiri Forum, Dalseer Committee, Sadhu Ganga Asthapan, Kandi Khas, Manzgam Committee, Kapaal Mochan, Shopian, Jawalaji Samiti Khrew, Vetal Bhairav Srinagar, All India Kashmiri Samaj, Baramula Prabandak Committee, Shrine And Temple Management Committee Tral, Welfare Committee Wanpoh, Kralbab Ashram, Committee of Gushi, Kupwara, K P Sabha, Management Committee Tekipora, Lolab, Lavnag Welfare Committee, Lalpora, Shiva Bhagwati Trust Akingam, Prabandak Committee, Anantnag, J K Vichar Manch Tirath Raj Lukabhavan, Sudgar Smiti Sagam, Welfare Committee Hangalgund, Swami. Atmaramji Ashram, Gosian Gund and Swami Kumar Ji Geeta Sat Sang Ashram.
Others who also spoke at the meeting included Swami Kumar JI, Dr. R L Bhat, HN Jattu, P N Goja, Kuldeep Raina, Bal Ji Lahori, Bansi Lal Pandita, M K Raina, A K Raina, Advocate K.B Kaw, Sohan Lal Raina, Pyara Lal, S L Koul, D.N Kissu, Chuni Lal Bhat, L.D Koul, Sameer Saproo, Sameer Tickoo, Kashmiri Lal Bhat, Bhushanlal Bhat, Subash Chatta, P N Raina. Dr. P N Trichal presided over the meeting and H L Bhat compared the proceedings.
The participants decided that a symbolic protest dharna would be held on Feb 16 at Press Club to press for the demand.
They reminded all political parties and leaders that be that they are answerable for their promises and demanded that the Bill be passed at the during the present session of the assembly.
The speakers made pointed references to the undermining of the ancient temples at Khrew, Mattan, Akingam, Lolab, Kupwara, Sopore, Baramulla, Wanpoh, Shopian, Pulwama, Tral, Gushi, Lalpora, etc. They specifically pointed to the land sale at Mata Jawalaji, Ramchandraji Temple, and Vetal Bhairav Temple, and Mismanagement of Mata Balaji, Gupt Ganga Temple, Shivji Temple and other temples under the Dharmarth.
