Srinagar, Jan 8: The State Vigilance Organization has initiated a probe into a video in which a former top State Forest Corporation official has been allegedly caught receiving bribe from a contractor for clearing a report on his work.
Sources in the VO said they have received the video from the contractors in which the retired Divisional Manager Extraction, Anantnag, Peer Manzoor Ahmad has been allegedly video-graphed for accepting bribe from a contractor.
“We have received the video in a CD and have registered a case. We are carrying out investigation into it so that it reaches its logical conclusion,” sources said.
The contractor, Asif Shafi, had to carry out extraction of timber from compartment 28/v Halsidar Anantnag of the composite nature of work which included road construction, transportation of the timber upto final destinations.
“I went to the Divisional Manager Extraction for the report about my work carried out in the compartment. But, he exchanged the words which smelled out to grease his hands then and only I would be given a report,” Shafi claimed.
“I finally held courage to catch his shameful activities while demanding and accepting the bribe, and decided to shoot it to unveil the DM while accepting bribe,” he said.
The video, which is in possession of the Excelsior, showed the officer allegedly accepting bribe from the contractor.
“Sir, please do justice with me. I had given your earlier too. I can’t pay more than this,” the contractor says to the Manager while trying to handover him some cash.
The Manager who could be seen in the video refuses to take the “insufficient” amount from the contractor.
“I swear by God it won’t happen till you pay me more. I am not tyrant on anybody. I will give requisition report but you have to pay more,” the Manager tells the contractor.
“Please, do justice, consider me your own child,” the contractor pleads before the Manager.
The Manager replies: “What justice? There is no justice.” He gets up from his seat after receiving a phone call and takes the money from the contractor, saying the amount “is less and you have to pay equal sum.”
