Veyath Truvah celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Sept 17: Veyath Truvah, the birthday of river Vitasta which has great religious significance for Kashmiri Hindus was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety today.
In this connection functions were held at various places including at the Veyath Vatur Nag the origin of river Vitasta at Verinag in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Daughters of Panun Kashmir (PK) celebrated the day by organizing a grand function at Ranbir Canal tributary of river Chanderbagha here.
The PK team led by its spokesperson, Virender Raina paid floral tributes to the river Goddess. The prominent among those who participated in the event were DOPK chairperson, Mohni Raina, its patron Bimla Chrungoo, Kamal Bagati, Virender Koul, Vijay Qazi, N M Gadroo, Romesh Koul, Samir Bhatt, Kewel Krishan and members of the youth Wing of DOPK.
Besides the leaders of various KP organizations including H L Chatta president ASKPC, Dr A N Pandit of Prem Nath Bhat, Memorial Trust, M K Raina president Jawala Ji Samiti also spoke on the occasion. The function was also attended by Utpal Kaul a senior KP activist.
P K also organized a programme at Chandigarh on the occasion and it was attended by its president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo. The members of Chandigrah and Panchkula Associations also attended the programme. On the occasion Shiv Dass coordinator of Chandigarh chapter PK informed regarding preparations for the forthcoming holocaust Exhibition and Anandpur Sahib yatra on September 21 and 22.
Non Camp Migrant Organisation (NCMO) celebrated the Vitasta Day at the bank of Ranbir Canal at Muthi near here. The function started with Kanak Poojan followed by Bhajan Kirtan.
The function was presided over by H N Jatu president AIKPC and Swami Kumar Ji was the chief guest on the occasion. He threw light on the religious significance of Veth Truvah.
NCMO president Nana JI Dembi said that new generation should come forward and take part in these functions to know about their cultural and religious festivals. NCMO vice president, Kashyap Tickoo, chairman Pushkar Nath Pandita and M M Ganjoo also spoke on the occasion. On the occasion Pooja and Aarti of Mata Ganga was performed and Diya and candles were burnt. Later the participants were served prashad.
