UDHAMPUR, Mar 20: In a major crackdown on illegal smuggling of timber, a team of Udhampur Forest Division seized 82 planks of Deodar loaded in a Tata 207 vehicle in Latti area of Chenani today.
Official sources said that the raid was carried out under the supervision of DFO Udhampur Rushal Garg, who acted on specific input and rushed to the spot at 1:30 am midnight.
Range officer Dudu Ayush Gupta along with personnel from Territorial Forest Division, Udhampur, J&K Police and Forest Protection Force, Udhampur executed the raid. The timber smuggler, Swami Raj, who is a habitual offender, has also been arrested.
The vehicle bearing registration No. JK14H-2399 used for smuggling, along with banned chainsaw and axe from Swami Raj, son of Krishan Lal, hailing from Sira Morh, Latti, was also seized.
