JAMMU, Sept 29: A vehicle loaded with illegal Khair wood was seized by police in Gharota area on the intervening night of September 28 and 29, officials said.
During night checking at Aghore, a white Maruti car (JK02V-3019) was signalled to stop, but its driver fled from the spot under the cover of darkness, they said.
“On inspection, the vehicle was found carrying around 11 to 12 quintals of Khair wood, allegedly being smuggled for commercial purposes,” official said.
According to them, the seized vehicle and timber have been taken into custody, and a report has been registered at Police Station Gharota.
Officials further said the material will be handed over to the Forest Department for necessary action under the Forest Act.
