Vedic tradition for rulers

Swami Ram Swarup Ji, Yogacharya
It is sad that nowadays the desires of politicians to get power to satisfy their ulterior motives, has destroyed almost all the eternal, traditional Vedic politics wherein the true and the best qualities of politicians have beenpreached and were followed by the kings of previous yugas, who in turn, satisfied their public in all respects. For example-
Rigved mantra 1/8/8 preaches that just as the trees of mango and jackfruit etc., provide their sweet fruits to the living-beings to make them happy similarly the respect worthy vedvanni enlightens the sweet and true speech of Almighty God before the public. The said vedvani is pleasure giving and source of preach to the politicians. As the emperors and the public of previous yugas were totally followers of Vedas, therefore they were all helpful to others and sweet spoken. Question arises why not now? Because at present everything has turned upside down.
The mantra further adds thatinfact the King is a real competent/suitable king who is learned of royal politics from vedas. [Unfortunately, our country has broken the said tradition due to which the public has been badly affected.]
Rigved mantra 1/25/10 states that the King who is the follower/learned of Vedic royal politics, doer of pious deeds and possesses the best intellect is only entitled and capable to rule the country.
Here, I would like to draw your attention towards the fact that under the guidance of Vedic politics the lineage of Kings right from Manu and his son Ikshawaku ruled over Ayodhya from the beginning of the earth and accordingly satisfied the people. In this lineage only the great religious monarch Dasrath and his son Sri Ram based on Vedas’ political preach very well nursed the entire earth, showering pleasure on public.Valmiki Ramayan and TulsiRamayan state that during their reign [due to Vedic spiritualism also] no earthquakes, floods, cyclones, famines etc. took place. In addition, people of that time were not effected by sensuality, anger, greed, ego, pride etc. and the said qualities are essential to maintain peace, brotherhood, non-violence and good conduct in the country.
I mention here two instances in respect of the above Kings-
When King Dasrath became oldand wanted to abdicatehis throne, then he told to the royal court that -“As my ancestors nursed the kingdom like their own children, similarly I’ve also nursed the Kingdom without intoxication/negligence/rest at my level best. Being old now, I wish to take rest.”
Therefore I desire to handover the throne to my elder son-Ssri Ram. If my thoughts are appropriate/justifiable/acceptable then give your permission otherwise do what you all think to do.
Kindly, pay your attention towards the Vedic period that how the learned, most respect worthy Kings used to welcome their achievement of power that when VasishthMuniji informed Sri Ram about his coronation then Sri Ram and Mata Sita went to their palace calmly, took bath and then with pure heart indulged in worshipping Almighty God according to Vedas.
After continuous worship of about nine hours, they got up at the beginning of dawn and started agnihotra with ved mantras.Thereafter, they concentrated on Gayatrijaap.
Now, everything has turned upside down.
Further before King Dasrath, King Trishanku, Bharat, Sagar, Dilip, Bhageerath, Raghu, Ambareesh and King Aj , who was father of king Dasrath etc., nursed their public like their own children, providing them with all comforts because traditionally, the pious effect of the Vedic royal politics was in their blood, therefore they all were traditionally learned of vedas, good charactered, religious minded prestigious leaders, always truthful, sweet spoken, learned of Vedic royal politics, nourisher and protector of people and had several other divine qualities which they utilized to serve the people pleasantly, faithfully, justiciably etc.
Study of ancient religious granths of Rishi-Munis also reveals that uptilMahabharat war, when King Yudhishthir was ruling the earth, people were happy, and the shortcomings/defects like poverty, dishonour to women, caste-system, starvation, violence etc., were not even seen or heard in the society. But now, everything has turned upside down.
The above instances show that the lives of Kings and politicians according to vedas, are meant for serving the public like their own children, as per Vedic law which is not being seen at present, due to lack of Vedas’ knowledge. Truly, it is said that when culture is destroyed, the nation is itself destoyed.
