JAMMU, June 27: Viklang Chhatra Trust (VCT) an Old Care Society has appealed President of India, Ramnath Kovind to make a provision in the law for reserving of seats for differently abled persons in Parliament and State Legislatures of the country.
In a handout issued here, today the Trust said this provision will enable their representatives to highlight their problems of day to day life being faced by this ignored class of society.
Trust said that the population of differentlyabled persons is about 4.5 crore across the country who belong to various communities but they have been a neglected lot till date.
The statement said that the leaders of the political parties have always made slogans of fetching votes of this class but did nothing in actual for their welfare and dignity.
It said apart from this not even a single State of the country has ever contemplated of bringing a about a beneficial legislation with a provision of reserving genuine percentage of the differently abled persons in Parliament. Despite their handicap that varies from person to person, these hapless persons go from pillar to post in order to vindicate their rights, which besides being cumbersome and tiring , time and money consuming they could not be able to convince the Government that they are indispensable part of the society and yet have no representation in the House.
