JAMMU, June 27: Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, today visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi and inspected KVK instructional Farm, Demonstration units and reviewed functioning of the KVK.
He also inaugurated newly renovated Training Hall of KVK Reasi equipped with latest training facilities for different stakeholder of the district. During his stay at KVK, he had an interaction with progressive farmers of the district.
On the occasion, Prof Sharma was accompanied by Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension, S Iqbal Singh, Estate Officer and Dr R K Arora, Associate Director Extension, following all Covid-19 SOPs and guidelines.
In his address, Prof Sharma laid emphasis upon establishment of Farmers’ Producer Organization with marketing linkages and branding of agriculture and allied. He advised value addition of fruits, vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, adoption of protected cultivation, organic agriculture and diversification in agriculture for achieving goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
Dr Sharma desired that one honour board mentioning the list of progressive and good farmers of the district should be installed in KVK that will boost the moral of other farmers of the district. He also stressed for establishment of processing cum value addition unit at KVK for development of local brand and insisted for formulation of a comprehensive project report on scope of processing units in the district . He explained how farmers could get good price for their produce by grading, developing credibility and best marketing practices. He also stressed for developing well designed and organized crop cafeteria for benefits of the farmers.
Pamphlets entitled “Lemon Grass” and “Bulletin on Tribal Farmers” was also released on the occasion. Neem Cake and Seedling Trays were distributed to progressive farmers for adopting organic farming. Later Dr. Sharma also visited Organic training center Talwara, Reasi and discussed in detailed about its various processes that are being adopted for organic productionand also stressed for horizontal expansion of the organic cultivation.
Earlier, Dr Banarsi Lal, I/c Sr Scientist and Head, KVK Reasi gave detailed presentation about how KVK is working for benefits of Reasi and Udhampur district of J&K. Dr Sanjay Koushal, SMS, Agronomy presented vote of thanks.
