JAMMU, Sept 1: In order to boost the financial position of Jammu Development Authority, the VC JDA convened a meeting of Rent Collectors of JDA.
The meeting was attended by DLM, Secretary JDA, Tehsildars and Rent Collectors. While reviewing the progress, it was informed by the Rent Collectors that there are certain chronic defaulters who are not paying the rent in Bahu Plaza Market and lakhs of rupees have accrued as arrears against them.
The Vice Chairman JDA, Rajesh Kumar Shavan accordingly directed the Tehsildars to immediately start the recovery proceedings under the Land Revenue Act and in case of failure, seal the property and issue arrest warrants against defaulters for effecting recoveries. He even directed the Director Land Management to get the list of defaulters published alongwith photographs in leading newspaper for service.
It was also informed by the Rent Collectors that certain shopkeepers are paying just Rs 35 per month per shop at Nehru Market while the rent of these shops should have been atleast Rs 15,000 per month as per the market rate but in absence of revision of rates, the JDA is being put to a great financial loss. In certain cases, it was pointed out that JDA properties have been illegally sold by the allottees even without intimating JDA and people are un-authorisedly occupying such property.
In view of these revelations, the VC JDA took serious view and asked the DLM to come up with a firm proposal of revision of rates. It was decided to get the shops vacated in case the tenants/allottees are not paying the rents.
The Vice Chairman directed the Executive Engineers to mark each and every property of JDA by using specific colour codes and finish the exercise within two weeks. He also desired a regular follow up of all court cases and instructed the legal wing to prioritize the list in the chronological manner.
