Cong, NC strongly oppose decision

JAMMU, Oct 16: Various leading trade bodies of Jammu including Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ware House Traders Association today held protest demonstration and dharna outside new Reliance Retail Store, which was opened at City Square (Chandnagar), near Dogra Chowk here today.

Led by Arun Gupta, president CCI Jammu, Deepak Gupta-president Ware House/ Nehru Market Traders Association, presidents of Raghunath Bazar, Kanak Mandi, Purani Mandi Traders Associations, Chemists Association besides members of dozens of other trade organizations assembled outside the newly opened Reliance Store at City Square Mall at around 10-30 am on Sunday and held strong protest. They were shouting slogans against BJP and Lt Governor’s Administration.
They were strongly opposing the opening of this store and claimed that with this, the local traders will suffer badly. This decision of the Government was against the interests of small traders/ shopkeepers who were running their livelihood since long. They said despite assurance by the Administration to the CCI during past, the Government has given nod to the opening of this store in Jammu which will badly affect the local trade in Jammu, which has already been badly hit with the direct train service to Katra.
Meanwhile, Deepak Gupta said that tomorrow an emergency meeting of all the trade bodies of Jammu has been called, where in next course of action will be decided. He said there was strong resentment among the traders of Jammu against this move of the ruling Govt and trader will not sit silent.
Meanwhile, Congress party led by senior leaders Raman Bhalla (PCC working president), Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, PYC chief Uday Bhanu Chib and others held protest in Jammu today and strongly opposed the decision of the BJP Government to open Reliance Store in Jammu and said that it will hit the Jammu traders badly.
They said Jammu traders are already suffering for the last few years and now with such moves of the LG’s Administration, the new small start ups will face premature death. Such decisions will prove counter- productive for the BJP, they alleged.
Senior NC leader and former minister Babu Ram Paul also opposed the opening of Reliance Store in Jammu. He said the Government must review its decision.
