JAMMU, Apr 15: Various organizations paid tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.
All J&K Scheduled Castes Welfare Association paid tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar on his 124th birth anniversary. On the occasion, Minister for Social Welfare, Forest and Environment, Bali Bhagat was the chief guest, whileas President of the Association RL Bharti, Bhagat Amin Chand, vice president, Om Raj Bhall, secretary, Col SN Dogra, advisor, Milkhy Ram Majotra, treasurer, Saran Das Munyal, joint secretary, Captain Girdhari Lal, Captain Joginder Pal, Tripta Bhagat, Coordinator Women Cell and Ram Lal Lakhnotra were also present.
On the occasion, Minister felicitated national/international award winning personalities including Master Shanu, Piyush Bhagat, Constable Amreek Singh, Constable Surjeet Singh, Bishan Dass and Sanjeev Manmotra.
The Association apprised Minister about their various demands including legislation, allocation and implementation of special component plan, flouting of reservation in services, political reservation, enforcement of SC/ST (PoA) Act and Rules, provision of scholarship of all scheduled caste students, construction of hostels for SC students, etc. Minister assured that he will take up the issues with concerned authorities for redressal.
Department of English, Central University of Jammu organized a one-day regional seminar on the topic “Bahishkrit Bharat: Remembering Babasahib.” The seminar was organized to commemorate Dr BR Ambedkar birth anniversary. The seminar began with a tribute to Dr Ambedkar by Raj Gaurav Verma, Asstt Prof Department of English. Prof Nandini Bhattacharaya, Head, Department of English, spoke on the concept of “Genealogy of Caste.” Dr Shaveta Kohli from the Department of Economics spoke about the contribution of Baba Sahib in the upliftment of Dalit community and women. Dr MA Farooq, Asstt Prof, Department of English, highlighted the participation of Dr Ambedkar in various Dalit movements like Mahad Satyagrah. Raj Thakur, Asstt Prof, Department of English, enthralled the audience with recitation of the poem. Students and scholars from various departments of the University were present in the seminar. The paper presentation session was followed by a question-answer session in which scholars asked many thought provoking questions pertaining to the caste system and implementation of various government policies for the marginalized sections of society.
AIBCU held a meeting under the chairmanship of its president Abdul Majid Malik and paid tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar. During the meeting, the speakers highlighted the contribution of Dr Ambedkar. Among others present were Sandokh Chand, Swarn Singh, Tarsem Lal, Daulat Ram, Deepak Pande, Prof Kali Dass, etc.
All J&K Mahasha Jagriti Mission celebrated birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar. President of the Mission Koushal Kumar Krotra along with Som Raj Taroch, Rajesh Bajgal, TN Deol, AN Premi and Dwarka Nath Naryal paid floral to Dr Ambedkar and also highlighted his contribution.
Birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar was celebrated by SC, ST, OBC Forum, Shakti Nagar, Rajpura, Shiv Nagar, which was attended by large number of people. Tributes were paid to Dr Ambedkar by chief guest Manmohan Singh, Ex-Corporator and Vijay Kumar, president, Vishwakarma Sabha, Mangal Dass Dogra, president, Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Ramesh Angurana, general secretary, Guru Ravi Dass Sabha, Prabhu Dayal, leader Bhagat Biradari, Kewal Krishan Jogi, social workers, Ramesh Kumar, president, Barwala Sabha and others. A community fest was also organized on the occasion.
