JAMMU, Oct 2: Several political, social and Government organizations today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with national fervour and  enthusiasm and also launched cleanliness campaign on this occasion at many places.
Pradesh Congress Committee organised a function in connection with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and paid rich tributes to the father of the Nation. PCC vice president Th Hari Singh presided over the function while several senior Congress leaders  including former Ministers and legislators and other office bearers attended the programme. The speakers in the meeting recalled the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi in freedom struggle and described Gandhi as great visionary. They said that Gandhiji was an apostle of non-violence and staunch peace lover. The United Nations has declared this day as International Non Violence Day, thus recognizing contributions and philosophy of Gandhiji which is more relevant today.
Prominent among others present included Mula Ram, Gulachin Singh Charak, R S Chib, CL Bhat, Indu Pawar,
Kuldip Verma, Krishan Lal, Indu Pawar, Hari Singh Chib, Gurdarshan Singh, M L Kashyap and Ravi Salathia.
Senior Congress leader and Ex-MP Madan Lal Sharma todaty lauhched cleanliness drive in connection with the Gandhi Jayanti at Chandan Vihari Muthi  and Satwari Chowk in Jammu today. A large number of Congress Party activists and locals of  these areas joined him in this drive. All the members pledged to contribute for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, as launched by Prime Minister today. Retired DIG B K Anand also joined the drive.
In Nowshera  constituency, (Dandesar), PCC chief spokesperson and MLC Ravinder Sahrma distributed relief among the flood affected people in connection with the Gandhi Jayanti today. While speaking on the occasion, the MLC threw light on the philosophy of Gandhi ji who was torch bearer of  peace and non-violence. He stressed upon the need to adopt basic philosophy of non-violence, brotherhood and secularism in practical life.  Several prominent persons of the area were also present.
In Chenani, MLA Krishan Chander Bhagat from Congress Party along with other activists paid tributes to Gandhi ji and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in a function organised today. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA appealed the people to follow the path shown by these two towering leaders of the country. Brij Mohan Sharma and Geeta Devi also addressed the gathering.
Congress Committee, Kishtwar also held a meeting to pay tributes to Gandhi ji.  Senior Congress leader Randeep Bhandari and others spoke on the occasion and recalled the contributions of the father of the Nation.
Congress Seva Dal district Samba unit  celebrated  145th birth anniversary of Rashtrapita Mahatma Ganhdi at Vijaypur today. B S Sambyal, State chief organizer of the  Congress Seva Dal addressed the gathering and paid tributes to Gandhiji.  Sambyal said the Congress Party had launched cleanliness campaign long back in the country and now BJP was raising hollow slogans for taking credit.
Block Congress Committee, Akhnoor in a function organised today paid tributes to Mahtama Gandhi on this birthday  and recalled his contributions in the freedom struggle. The BCC members described Gandhiji as an apostle of peace and a staunch believer of non-violence. They also paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birthday also falls on October 2. Prominent among those present included Baldev Raj Sharma, working president, Aman Gupta, Subash Langar and Madan Gupta.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti at Jammu and organised a function in this connection. Former Minister and State president Th Randhip Singh presided over the function. He said the best tributes to the Gandhi ji on this occasion would be to weed out corruption from society. Mr Singh also recalled the contributions of  Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom struggle of the country and said that his philosophy of peace and non-violence is more relevant today.
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), led by Commissioner Kiran Wattal and other senior officers launched cleanliness drive to mark Gandhi Jayanti. As a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Campaign’ launched by the Prime Minister, the JMC team, social activists, prominent persons of the city and others joined them in the campaign and pledged to keep their city and surround environment clean. The campaign commenced from Gandhi Chowk, Satwari and concluded at Mubarak Mandi. The grand ceremony was also attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu and VC of  Jammu University, Director Health Services, members of Gandhi Global Family, teachers and students. It was pledged by all the keep India clean.
Air Force Station Jammu carried out intensive cleanliness campaign in connection with the Gandhi Jayanti today. As a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ the motivated personnel of IAF Station Jammu undertook various cleanliness drive  and awareness campaign during the week long programme.  Besides the IAF personnel, their families and chidren of Air Force School also joined the campaign. This was followed by essay and slogan writing competition.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch, M H Malik today launched Swachh Bharat campaign by flagging off a road walk from Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Poonch at 10 am today. A general awareness about the cleanliness was spread among the masses. It culminated at Krishan Chander Park. It was attended by SSP, Poonch, ADC, various district level officials, political leaders, legislators, teachers, students  and the social activists. MLC Jahangir Mir, DC and ACD also addressed the gathering.
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Shyam Vinod Meena along with SSP  M S Chouhan and other district level officials and staff swept and cleaned DC office complex as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan today. They took pledge to devote at least two hours in a week for the cleanliness drive.  The DC also spoke on the importance of the day and paid tributes to the Gandhiji.
On the launching of  ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, an extensive cleanliness drive was held across the district Kathua today. Officers and officials of various departments at DC Office complex, Mini Secretariat and other parts of the Kathua town were found giving their participation in the cleanliness campaign under the mission.  The employees also launched  cleanliness drive in their  respective offices.
An impressive programme was also organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra at Dream Land park where cleanliness pledge was administered by DDC Dr Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary to the participants including officers of different departments besides prominent citizens of the town.
Similar functions and cleanliness campaigns were held in various schools, colleges and other educational institutions of Kathua town as well as other tehsils  like  Basohli, Billawar, Bani, Hiranagar, Marheen and Dinga Amb. A massive cleanliness drive also held in the main Bazars of the Kathua town where officer and staff of Municipality, prominent citizens, members of Beopar Mandal were seen actively participating in the campaign.
CRPF, Army and Police authorities have also organised cleanliness drive in their respective offices and camp areas where a mass participation was witnessed during the day long campaign.
Directorate of Rural Sanitation Kashmir, Saleem Mohd also launched cleanliness drive under the banner Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. While speaking on the occasion he emphasized the need for creating environment which is free from pollution of any sort. He also asked the officers of the department to ensure that the drive is speeded up in the different parts of the State.
The Income Tax Department at Jammu celebrated the Mahatma’s birth anniversary by taking an oath “Swacchta Shapath” today at Aayakar Bhawan, Jammu.  A  K Thatai, Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Jammu administered the “Swacchta Shapath” to all the officers and officials who were present in the office. In his addressed to the department personnel, Mr Thatai emphasized the need to change the mind set and try to understand that each individual is responsible to keep his environment clean and should not keep on waiting to others to start.
District Administration Ramban today launched its “Swachh Bharat” sanitation drive.  In this regard, an eventful programme was organised by the Rural Development Department Ramban in collaboration with Army under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Faroq Shah Bukhari.
The programme was attended by all district and sectoral officers hundreds of students of various schools, employees, Sarpanchs, Panchs and prominent citizens of Ramban. The mega awareness camp in the grounds of Higher Secondary School Ramban was followed by sanitation drive through the main road and alleys of Ramban town.
Ashok Kumar,  MLA Ramban was the chief guest on the occasion whereas prominent among those who attended included, Brig Bupesh Kumar, Nawab Din ADC Ramban , Dr Tahir Firdous ACR  and senior Army and civil officers.
The  NSS Unit of  Govt Degree College, Reasi   organized  three day  cleanliness  drive in the College  in connection  with    Gandhi Jayanti  celebrations and   Prime Minister’s  call for  “ Swachh Bharat “  as  mass movement to fulfil dreams of Gandhi ji to see India Clean and green.  During the Camp a plantation drive was also carried out by the NSS Volunteers.
Principal of the College Prof  Kaushal Samotra   highlighted the role of  trees for the  survival of mankind. She  emphasized  on the  importance of  such  programme  in the  college in general  and  for the  society  in particular.  She  impressed  upon the students to carry forward  this message of  “Swachh Bharat” to the general masses and act as  saviors of  plant life in future.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur,  Yasha Mudgal impressed upon the officers and civil society of the district to realize the importance of cleanliness and keeping environment clean. While launching   campaign under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ at Udhampur today  the  DDC along with officers and civil society of the district took the pledge for keeping Udhampur district neat and clean and make the general public aware about to manage and dispose off their solid waste regularly and asked to make it habit in future to keep their vicinity clean and involve other people in this effort in the district.
The DDC stressed to give the message that we all must pledge not to use polythene in our daily routine and instead we must make use of  fiber or cloth bags so that make our city polythene free.
On the occasion Mahatma Gandhi’s  birth anniversary, Zonal Leprosy Office of  Directorate of Health Services organized a ‘Kushth Mukti Abhiyan Rath Yatra’, to sensitize masses about the disease
The ‘Rath Yatra’ was flagged off from the premises of Directorate of Health Services Jammu by Dr Baljeet Pathania, Director Health Services Jammu in the presence of Dr, Saroj Kotwal, Zonal Leprosy office Jammu. The motive of the ‘Rath yatra’ is to make the public aware about leprosy disease
Meanwhile on the occasion, the Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation under the chairmanship of its president Sushil Sudan, also joined cleanliness drive (Swachh Abhiyan) as announced by the  Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The drive was inaugurated by Dr  Pathania, in presence of staff.
Housing and Urban Development Department, in advance had communicated to all the Chief Executive officers/Executive Officers of various Municipal Councils/ Committees of Jammu Division through Directorate of Urban local Bodies Jammu for launching a cleanliness drive and administering pledge by officers/officials of the Municipal Councils/Committees.
As a follow-up for making the cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan successful,   Satish Nehru Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department accompanied with  K L Khajuria Director, Urban Local Bodies Jammu visited the Municipal Committee R.S.Pura, Bishnah and Bari-Brahmana today to check the preparedness made for launching of the said mission. Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Depart-ment interacted with the officers/officials of the Municipal Committees and local inhabitants and discussed the modalities regarding the cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which shall continue throughout the month.
Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Udhampur organized “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” drive,  as a mass moment to realize Gandhi ji dreams of Clean India. The District Youth Coordinator NYK   Nissar Ahmed Butt along with clubs & Mahilla Mandals gave a floral tribute to the Father of the Nation.
Mr Nissar said that a unique initiative of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, aims to create mass awareness and inculcate lasting behavioral changes of maintaining hygiene in people.
During the drive, the District Youth Coordinator NYK  along  with Clubs, Mahilla Mandals and volunteers took the pledge for  keeping  surrounding areas neat and clean and make the general public aware about to manage and dispose off their solid waste regularly.
Gandhi Global Family organised a programme  at  Mubarak Mandi Jammu,  on145th Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation. A large number of people from all walks of life including students from various schools, colleges, academicians,  prominent citizens, women activists and NGOs participated in it.
The devotees from urban as well as from rural areas in their traditional dress keeping National flags in their hands, chanting Bhajans of Gandhiji  were involved in paying floral tributes to Father of the Nation at Dewan-e-Aam. Students from various schools and colleges presented very high quality cultural, bhajans and patriotic songs.
Rich Tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 110th birth anniversary. Padamshri SP Verma vice president Gandhi Global Family presented Indo-UN Pins to Shantmanu Divisional Commissioner, Prof M.S Ishar Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Ajeet Sahu Dy Commissioner Jammu, Dr B.S Pathania Director Health Services, Jammu for their contributions towards society on behalf of Director United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, New Delhi.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was observed at the District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET) Jammu under the guidance and supervision of Mohinder Singh, Principal  DIET Jammu today.
The Principal along with staff members took part in the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in the office premises.
The staff members took oath to keep the office premises and their surroundings clean.
Taking the “Swachh Bharat Mission” campaign further in the rural parts of the nation, NABARD has launched a month long cleanliness drive by leveraging its vast national outreach through network of NGOs, Farmers’ Clubs and Self Help Groups.
Launching the campaign, Dr Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman, NABARD, said, “We see the “Swachh Bharat Mission” campaign as a logical extension of our efforts towards building a more empowered and healthier rural India. Our research in the micro finance sector as well as many other sectoral studies have shown that a sizeable chunk of expenditure of the poor in rural areas is on account of health related issues. A cleaner, healthier rural India is thus Central to all financial planning. We have nearly 1.5 lakh Farmers’ Clubs, several lakhs of rural Self Help Groups and over 5000 NGO partners, many of which have championed social issues in their areas. We believe that these collectives of farmers, rural women and NABARD’s partner institutions can play a substantial role in this noble and dynamic drive initiated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.” The campaign was officially launched on 2nd October in NABARD’s Head Office and the various regional offices in the country with an oath ceremony and cleaning of the premises led by the top management.
NHPC Ltd, Jammu as a part of  Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched cleanliness drive at Dul Hati in Kishtwar today. The drive was launched under the guidance of GM Arvind Bhat. A large number of employees of the project joined the campaign. The Regional office of the NHPC also joined countrywide cleanliness drive today. The campaign started with administering of pledge by Executive Director Om Parkash, to all the employees of the Corporation.
National Rural Mission (State Health Society) observed   Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at both the Divisional offices in the State on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The officials of the State who had maintained cleanliness in their cabins/ rooms were awarded by Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K on the recommendations of the committee which carried out the assessment.
Over 1000 BSF men joined cleanliness drive at BSF Frontier Headquarters Ploura, in Jammu  under the guidance of IG BSF  Jammu Frontier Rakesh Kumar today.  Various teams were formed to carry out campaign on the campus.  Barracks, family lines, roads etc were cleaned.
Department of  Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing organised Swachh Bharat campaign at village Raika in Jammu today.  Children from Govt Middle school Raika was involved in the campaign. Headmaster Shyam Kumar and  ECS Neha Mehta spoke on the occasion.
Sky High India Social Organisation Udhampur,  Gandhi Bhawan Committee Jammu, NABARD Ramban, Sant Nirankari Charitable foundation led by Ajit Singh, JKAP 14th Bn headed by Anil Kumar Katoch, Radio Kashmir Jammu,   Press Information Bureau (Ministry of I&B) Jammu, Bharatiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan,  Govt Degree College Thannamandi, Residents of Tawi Vihar, Bharatiya Gujjar Mahasabha and  Naïve Heeds trust also joined Swachh Bharat campaign today.
The Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated today by various organizations, institutions and Government Departments by remembering the Father of Nation and contributing towards ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, a drive for cleanliness on the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In connection with the Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a cleanliness drive was also conducted at all Army establishments and formations from 25 September 2 October. All officers, JCOs, Other Ranks of the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army), gathered at the lawns of the Sena Bhawan (New Delhi) for an oath taking ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief of Army Staff expressed complete confidence that all personnel of the Army & civilians working with the Army would work earnestly towards achieving the Mahatma’s dream of building a clean India. The COAS, along with all present, thereafter took a solemn pledge to pursue the dream of Mahatma Gandhi in creating a clean India.
The Tiger Division of the Indian Army also organized a large scale Swachhta Shapath Grahan Samaroh, today.  A total of 9000 personnel of the Indian Army including civilian defence employees took the ‘Swachhta Shapath’ in various Garrisons of Jammu.  General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division addressed the personnel on this occasion and emphasized on the need to fulfill this dream of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
With the beginning of “Swachh Bharat” programme on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, J&K Armed Police has taken up the task of cleaning religious institutions. During its day long special cleaning drive different units of Armed Police today carried out cleaning of a Gurdawara and two Temples at Indira Nagar and Magarmal Bagh, Haj House at Bemina, Mosques at SDA Colony Bemina, Police Housing Colony Qamarwari and the compounds of already cleaned hospitals.
Cadets of NCC Directorate J&K actively participated in Clean India campaign under the command of Col Amit Kansal, the Camp Commandant of Cam at NCC Camping Ground Nagrota. Approximately 400 Cadets took oath of keeping the environment clean and green. Besides launching a cleanliness drive, they NCC Cadets also took out a rally.
On Gandhi Jayanti, 187th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Battal Ballian, Udhampur, organized Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the district. Deputy Commission Udhampur Yasha Mudgal and Commandant 187 battalion of CRPF M K Sharma formally launched the drive.
Similarly 137 battalion of CRPF Jakhani also launched cleanliness drive under the stewardship of Commandant Mukesh Kumar.
Government Super Specialty Hospital Jammu launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the institute on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Medical Superintendent Dr Romesh Gupta took the initiative by taking the Broom and Mop in his hands, guiding and motivating the Hospital staff and educating the public about basic sanitation and importance of cleanliness. He along with the Senior Administrative Officials, RMO Dr Saleem Bhatti and Dr D P Singh, CMO and Senior Doctors accompanied by various Staff members actively performed the sanitation activities in various areas of the hospital setting examples to be followed.
All the faculty and other staff members of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu participated in the Swachh Bharat  Abhiyan  and took a pledge to keep our surroundings clean and make our motherland litter free.
Dr R P Kudyar, Director-Principal, ASCOMS and Hospital, stressed upon the importance of cleanliness in our lives and desired that a special effort needs to be put in to achieve this goal. Dr K K Pandita, president ASCOMS Medical Teachers Association (AMTA) administered the Cleanliness Pledge to all those present on the occasion. After the pledge ceremony all the staff members led by Director Principal kick started the drive by cleaning the premises of the hospital.
Taking the “Swachh Bharat Mission” campaign further in the rural parts of the nation, NABARD has launched a month long cleanliness drive by leveraging its vast national outreach through network of NGOs, Farmers’ Clubs and Self Help Groups.
Launching the campaign, Dr Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, Chairman, NABARD, said, “During the current month, NABARD’s officials and its partner institutions will engage with the Self Help Groups and Farmers’ Clubs across the country in creating awareness about the imperative of building a cleaner rural India on a voluntary basis. The one month long drive will culminate on 31st October, 2014, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“Swachh Bharat Mission” campaign was also organized by NABARD, J&K Regional Office, Jammu and its District Offices.
In Samba, Surinder Singh, District Development Manager of NABARD launched the programme by using broom and shovel to clean the streets.
NABARD Rajouri in association with CMC Santhom Social Service Society, Nowshera organized Swachh Bharat Mission on 02 October 2014 in village Bajhnowa, block Nowshera, district Rajouri.
Swachh Bharat campaign was also organized by NABARD Reasi at Talwara village at Panchayat Ghar.
Employees of New India Insurance Company also participated in the nationwide Swachh Bharat campaign organizing a cleanliness drive at their Shalamar Divisional Office with a pledge to bring improvement in the environment.
As part of a nationwide effort, Jammu Retail Regional Office, under the leadership of Manish Tandon – Senior Regional Manager Jammu RO celebrated this auspicious day by garlanding the portrait of Gandhiji. It was followed by taking pledge by all the officers for “Swachh Bharat” in the office. Thereafter pledge was taken by 32 people in the HPCL housing complex also along with the family members of the HPCL officers.
The office complex and roadside was cleaned by the group and cleanliness Drive was also taken up at the various Retail Outlet across the Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation, under the leadership of its president Sushil Sudan, joined cleanliness drive as announced by the Prime Minister on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The drive was launched by Director Health Baljit Pathania in presence of staff, officers and members of JKMEF.
Mahatma Gandhi Intellectual Society organized a function for paying tributes to the Father of Nation. SSP Jammu Uttam Chand, former MP Madan Lal Sharma, Minister Raman Bhalla, former ministers R S Chib, Manjit Singh and prominent persons participated in the function.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal along with officers and civil society of the district took the pledge for keeping Udhampur district neat and clean and make the general public aware about to manage and dispose off their solid waste regularly.
The DDC said that Government departments under her have planned initiation of cleanliness drive under the banner Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. ADDC Ajay Singh Jamwal, ADC Vikas Sharma and others were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion of 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Sub-Divisional Magistrate Office Ghagwal, a pledge was taken to follow the path shown by Father of Nation and to fulfill the dreams of Prime Minister of India. A cleanliness drive was also launched on the occasion.
The J&K Khadi and Village Industries, Rajouri, organized a function for celebrating Gandhi Jayanti in the office premises of KV&IB at Industrial Estate. The participants paid floral tributes to Gandhi and threw light on his teachings.
The Congress workers under the leadership of former minister Shabir Ahmed Khan paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan today. All the Congress workers also pledged to  follow Mahatma’s ideals in letter and sprit and  vowed to  remain committed towards cleanliness by devoting  time for this to  make the country clean.
Municipal Committee Hiranagar and Citizens of the town organized cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.  The Municipal Committee Executive Officer, Jodh Raj and SDM Hiranagar Sohan Lal among other people took the pledge in this regard.
In order to pay befitting tributes to Father of the Nation, Ladies Wing of the Sector-4, Upper Roop Nagar Welfare Committee today conducted intensive cleanliness drive in the entire Sectors of four and five of Roop Nagar locality.
All the members of Morning Walkers Association Shastrinagar Park, started “Clean India” campaign and cleaned the whole park as well as surrounding areas as per the wishes of Prime Minister of India.
To celebrate the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Jagriti Old Age Home, Udhampur organized a function in the premises today. The Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal, who was chief guest on the occasion, paid floral tributes to Mahatama Gandhi and Shastri Ji. She also threw light on the teachings and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.
At Katra today, employees and management of KC Residency Hotel along with some adjoining hotels carried out a cleanliness drive on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to spread awareness of Clean India Mission. The employees participated enthusiastically and cleaned the streets and surrounding areas. General Manager Vijay Ganjoo led the cleaning drive along with Hotel Bali Resort GM Mr Verma and Devi Grand GM, Mr Bhat.
NSUI today delivered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birthday. The program was organized by NSUI Jammu University committee president Nitin Bakshi. Speakers on the occasion threw light on life and sacrifices of Gandhi as well as the Shastri.
The NSUI unit Kishtwar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by paying tribute to the Mahatma and visiting District Hospital Kishtwar with the aim to spread the message of Gandhi ji among common masses.
Sky High India Social Organization paid rich tributes to both the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.  Aman Kalsotra, Director Sky High India Social Organization along with others also recalled the services of both the leaders. Cleanliness drive was also organized by the organization members.
Udhampur District Congress Committee also paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth day by organizing a function. Those, who were present on the occasion, included Krishan Chander Bhagat, Brij Mohan Sharma, Geeta Khajuria, Jaswant Singh and others.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, social activist Lekh Raj Raina of village Baja Bain in Sunderbani donated an amount of Rs 5000 towards the relief for flood victims.
As a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, officers and officials in the office of   Development Commissioner, Handicraft, Service Centre Jammu, launched cleanliness drive. Director Kuldeep Sumbly led the drive, which will remain continue for two-hours a week regularly.
Jasrotia Welfare Society led by Bishamber Singh Jasrotia also launched a cleanliness drive at Municipal Park at Buta Nagar opposite to Police Station today. A large number of the locals participated in the drive and cleaned the park and other surrounding areas
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan (BLSKS) in collaboration with Ek Sath Rang Mandal launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from Durga Bhawan Janipur to attain the objective of clean India by cleaning every Mohalla, lane and drain.
The pledge Swachh Bharat was taken to keep India clean and devote 100 hours during every year for five years. The programme was inaugurated by V K Magotra, former Regional Director Field Publicity GOI who was the chief guest on the occasion. M L Dogra chairman BLSKS also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the objective.
As a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, General Manager, NHPC Ltd A G Ansari administered pledge to all the officers and employees of the Salal Power Station at Jyotipuram. During the campaign started from September 25 to October 2 many function were organized by Salal Power Station.
On the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, rich tributes were paid to the Father of Nation by the staff of J&K Khadi & Village Industries Board, Division office Jammu. The Dy CEO, KVIB Jammu Division Santosh Saraf said Secretary /CEO KVIB Mir Afroz has taken a decision to contribute one day salary of the staff towards CM’s Relief Fund.
