Vakil demands restoration of essential services on war-footing

JAMMU, Jan 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Bachao Tehreek and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil voiced concern over the massive damage caused due to the heavy snowfall across the Valley especially in Rafiabad in Baramulla.
In a press statement here Vakil said Kashmir Valley, especially Rafiabad is without electricity for the last two days and even hospitals are without power supply but Govt has failed to take precautionary measures. He said the snowfall has crippled the normal life of people due to blockade of roads. The expected snowfall damaged fruit trees causing anxiety among apple growers due to immense damage to trees whose branches have shattered which would definately affect the apple production in future, he said.
Vakil further added that while the snowfall plunged the whole Valley into darkness and snapped water, power supply and other basic amenities of life. No power schedule is being followed on ground and those living in rural and far flung areas are facing worst power crisis. Authorities have failed to restore electricity especially in Rafiabad, Sopore and other villages of district Baramulla.
He stressed upon the Governor to intervene for immediate assessment and adequate compensation of losses of fruit orchards and to take effective measure to restore the basic essentials commodities and road clearance so that people do not suffer.
Vakil expressed deep anguish and shock over the death of five members of a Tangdhar family due to asphyxia at Bemina on Saturday. ” I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family who lost their dear ones tragically. I appeal the administration to extend all possible help and grant immediate ex-gratia / relief to the bereaved family,” he added.
