JAMMU, Dec 26: Arrangements for day long Police Public Mela, being held in Jammu, were discussed in a senior police officers meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police Headquarters (ADGP), S. P. Vaid.
Deliberating on the aims of the Melas, ADGP said that Police Public Mela is one of the grand events being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWAA) after intervals regularly. He said the sources gained through these Melas are utilized for the welfare of police martyr’s families and wards of serving personnel under various welfare schemes. The Melas have helped to strengthen police public relations, bringing the duo closer to each other.
Mr. Vaid disclosed that 24th Police Public Mela would be held in February, 2014 at Jammu and all arrangements would be made for larger participation of people in this Mela. He said that people’s interest has made us to conduct such events regularly in the twin capital cities and we have been continuously focusing to enhance the scope of activities to attract more people in the Melas.
The meeting, while discussing the modalities decided that Raffle Draw tickets would be made available for sale for the common people in far-flung areas also, besides educational institutions and other police forces in the State. It was also decided that tickets would be put on sale to the public before one month of the Mela. In order to make efficient arrangements, different committees were constituted and entrusted different assignments for the grand event.
During the meeting, welfare schemes which are in vogue were also discussed to make them more beneficial for the personnel and their families. It was decided that the schemes would be reviewed in a high level meeting and decision with regard to introduction of new schemes would be taken to cover more personnel under such schemes.
The Inspector General of Police (Headquarters), Deepak Kumar also briefed the meeting about the conduct of the event.
Among others, the meeting was attended by IGPs, Dr. B Srinivas, HK Lohia, SJM Geelani, MS Salaria, PR Manhas, MA Khan and Rajesh Kumar, DIGs, AS Bali, Sham Lal, KL Baghat, SA Beig, Ali Mohammad and Vijay Singh Samyal, AIGPs, AA Kakroo and Rajeshwar Singh and other police officers.
