USTA holds convention, highlights demands of teachers

KATHUA, Sept 22: J&K United School Teachers Association (USTA) held one day convention, here today under the joint presidium comprised of Hari Singh, Rajeev Kumar, Roop Chand, Zulfkar Ali Malik and Raj Kumar, for highlighting various issues and demands of teachers.
While addressing the gathering, USTA President Hari Singh stressed upon the Govt to take concrete steps to provide teaching staff and other required infrastructure to rural area schools. He further criticized the authorities for rendering the entire transfer process stand still and teachers, masters, lecturers who have completed their tenure for 2 to 7 years in far flung areas have not been transferred so far.
The convention further expressed great anguish over the temporary promotions of Masters to Lecturers by violating the existing rules even denying them the benefit of charge allowance. USTA strongly condemned the authorities for not paying regular salary to large number of teachers working under SSA (now SAMAGRA).
Hari Singh also stressed upon the Government to implement the SAC decision to convert all left out RReTs in teacher grade II or III and release their seven months pending salary as well as arrears of 7th Pay Commission. He also expressed his great concern over the lackadaisical approach of authority towards the regularization of Lecturers, Headmasters and other officers.
The convention unanimously passed resolutions for releasing pending salary of all categories of teachers, converting all left out RReTs to teacher grade II or III, transfer all over stay teachers, masters and lecturers by implementing transfer policy, release senior teacher grade in favor of trained undergraduate teachers, fill all vacant posts in Education Department, debar teachers from all type of non-academic duties, regularize all ReTs who have completed their five year service, consider all post graduate teachers and Masters for promotion as lecturer who have passed their PG under 10+2+2 pattern from UGC recognized universities after seeking proper permission from department, introduce Pre-Primary class in all Schools and implement Old Pension Scheme for all employees.
USTA appealed the authorities to concede the demands otherwise teaching community will be compelled to resort agitation in near future.
Others who addressed the convention, included Ranjit Singh, Rashpal Singh, Rattan Chand, Sher Ali, Daram Pal, Ashok Kumar, Saif Ali, Shamsher Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Thuru Singh, Ajit Singh and Bali Mohd.
