JAMMU, Mar 26: Usha Vohra, First Lady, lauded the role being played by the Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK), Gandhi Nagar for promoting the emancipation of rural women, preservation of rural arts and crafts and for providing educational opportunities to children belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society.
She was speaking at a function organized by the VKK at the Youth Hostel, Khanpur, in Nagrota.
The First Lady appreciated the exuberance and spirit of the women and children who presented a cultural show comprising folk dances and folk songs, and varied sports events.
The First Lady presented prizes and mementoes to the participants and winners of the sports and cultural programmes.
The welcome address was presented by Sarla Kohli, Vice President, Viraj Kala Kendra and Raj Bharti, President, presented the Report of Viraj Kala Kendra.
Earlier, the First Lady visited Bal Bhawan School, Nagrota and went round the classrooms. She showed keen interest in the clay models and craft work done by the students and the attractive items prepared by them out of waste materials.
Seema Aggarwal was the guest of honour and Roma Wani was the special guest on the occasion.
