JAMMU, Nov 15: Usha Vohra, First Lady inaugurated the Kuchai Silk Expo-2014 here today.
The opening ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries including Rajendran, Deepa Kotwal, Sirisha Srinivas, Arunima Shantmanu, Rajni Kumar, Sundari Yadav and Sunita Gupta.
Jharkhand Silk, Textiles and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (Jharcraft) is an initiative of Jharkhand Government, Industry Department. Jharcraft is a step towards creation of sustainable opportunities of livelihood and upliftment of rural areas through the promotion and revival of the unique cultural expressions of the State and its people, thereby contributing extensively to the economy of the tribal State as well as the country.
Jharcraft encourages women empowerment to the maximum, touching more than 3 lakh artisans and weavers lives of Jharkhand through promotion of Handloom Tasar Silk rearing, Handlooms and Handicrafts.
Tasar Silk a completely natural and exclusive product of ‘Jharcraft’ is being promoted across the length and breadth of the country through its ‘Kuchai Silk Expos’. The Expo is named after “Kuchai” the major cultivating place of rearing Tasar cocoon of Jharkhand.
Jharcraft has been organising Kuchai Silk Expo in important cities in the country. This year so far it has successfully organised eight such expos in the country.
The First lady appreciated the efforts of Jharcraft in bringing the exhibition to Jammu. The General Manager, Jharcraft Dr. B. P. Prasad and Munmun Biswas, Marketing Partner, Jharcraft also spoke on the occasion.
