Usha Vohra for extending ambit of ASHI activities

JAMMU, Mar 8: Usha Vohra, First Lady, has called for further intensifying the activities of the Association for Social Health in India (ASHI) and mobilizing all possible resources to bring an increased number of beneficiaries under the umbrella of its initiatives.
The First Lady, who is the President ASHI (J&K Chapter), was chairing the Governing Body and Annual General Body meetings of ASHI, here today.
Expressing her satisfaction over the significant growth in the activities of ASHI, Mrs. Vohra observed that all members of the society need to contribute meaningfully for helping the underprivileged segments and promoting their socio-economic advancement. She emphasized the need for according greater thrust on sanitation, healthcare, literacy, computer education and skill upgradation programmes undertaken by ASHI and called upon all members of ASHI to focus on adult literacy programmes, particularly for women. She said that Adult Education should be one of the thrust areas of ASHI’s activities during 2013-14.
Referring to the Smart Classes she had recently launched at the Government Middle School, Jagti, the First Lady advised that, for securing the maximum possible benefit for the students it would be beneficial to develop software which is for different classes and, also, in respect of different segments.
The First Lady also reviewed the functioning of two short-stay homes – Neha Ghar and Apna Ghar – which are run by ASHI.
On behalf of the Governor, the First Lady presented a cheque of Rs. 2.20 lakh to ASHI for purchase of computers for staring Smart Classes in three more schools of Jagti and Panjgrain Panchayats and for purchasing TV sets for Neha Ghar and Apna Ghar which are being run by this NGO.
On behalf of the Governor, she also announced a token support of Rs. 51,000 for ASHI for undertaking an Adult Literacy programme and Rs. 36,000 towards meeting expenditure on account of  the salary of the lady Warden of Apna Ghar.
The meeting also took stock of the action taken on the decisions of the last meeting and approved the Budget and Action Plan of ASHI for the next financial year (2013-14).
Sushma Choudhary, Vice President, ASHI (J&K Chapter) made a detailed presentation to highlight the various activities which have been so far undertaken by this NGO and, besides, its future Action Plan.
The Secretary, ASHI, Prof. Kailash Rajput, dwelt on the main activities undertaken by ASHI during the past one year.
The Members of ASHI put forth several suggestions for bringing progressive improvements in the activities being carried out by this organization.
Seema Khajooria Shekhar presented a Vote of Thanks.
On this occasion, elections were held for office bearers and members of the Governing Body and Executive Committee of ASHI. Sushma Choudhary, Prof. Kailash Rajput and Prof. Hemla Aggarwal were re-elected as Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of ASHI, respectively, for another term of three years, while Seema Khajooria Shekhar was elected as Additional Secretary of the organization.
