SRINAGAR, Jan 6: Chairman RTI Movement, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat has appealed to the authorities for undertaking snow clearance on internal village roads under MGNREGA.
He said this will make sure all lanes and by-lanes in far flung areas get cleared of snow and this will also ensure employment guarantee to the people at a time when there is no work available.
“RTI Movement has been demanding to undertake snow clearance work under MGNREGA for the last many years but the Government isn’t taking this seriously,” Bhat said.
In a handout he said that employment guarantee is the essence of MGNREGA but this doesn’t get fulfilled in winter months in Kashmir.
“By utilizing JCBs and tractors to clear snow in villages, the village roads get damaged and only a handful of people get benefits,” he maintained adding that by utilizing MGNREGA funds thousands of people can get work and it will also ensure clearance of all roads, lanes and by-lanes in villages.
