JAMMU, Nov 25: Minister Counselor for Political Affairs in the United States Embassy in New Delhi, Graham Mayer, accompanied by Senior Political Advisor A Sukesh, today visited office of the Daily Excelsior and discussed current situation in Jammu and Kashmir with the Excelsior Editor-in-Chief Kamal Rohmetra and Executive Editor Neeraj Rohmetra.
The envoys had detailed interaction on a number of issues and subjects, particularly the political developments in Jammu and Kashmir following abrogation of Article 370 and the initiative taken for holding District Development Council polls for the first time in history of J&K.
Threat of terror groups and the security scenario in J&K were also discussed during the thorough interaction and the envoys were apprised about Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism for bloodshed on this side of border.
The Rohmetras enlightened the envoys how Pakistan was frequently resorting to unprovoked border firing for pushing armed infiltrators into J&K and thus threatening lives of innocent people.
Holding of first ever DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir for strengthening democracy at grass root level prominently figured in the discussion. The envoys were convinced that implementation of Panchayat Raj system here with the holding of DDC polls would politically empower people of J&K in true sense.
Several socio-cultural issues and ideas aimed at promoting development, peace in Jammu Kashmir also figured in the discussion. They also discussed the need of societal involvement in ensuring a balanced environment, improvised health and hygiene, promotion of literacy and global initiatives to make the world a better place to live in.
The envoys expressed satisfaction over discussion with the Rohmetras and hoped that the feedback would greatly help US Embassy in broad understanding of the issues confronting Jammu and Kashmir.
