ISLAMABAD : At least four militants, including some foreigners, were killed today when a US drone struck a compound in Pakistan’s restive North Waziristan region near the Afghan border.
The CIA-operated drone fired two missiles on the compound in Datta Khel area of the tribal region early this morning, killing four militants, a security official said.
The identity of those killed could not be determined immediately, but an intelligence official said that some foreigners linked with al-Qaeda were also among the dead.
US forces have intensified drone attacks on both sides of Pakistan-Afghanistan border in recent days.
Pakistan military has been also mounting an offensive against local and foreign militants in the restive district and yesterday its fighter jets killed 20 rebels.
The Military says more than 1,200 militants were killed since the launch of an offensive in June. (AGENCIES)
