US court postpones delivery date of psychiatric opinion on jailed Russian Nikulin to Feb 8

MOSCOW, Dec 26: The US District Court for the Northern District of California decided to extend the time limit for the delivery of expert psychiatric opinion on Russian national Yevgeniy Nikulin, who is accused by US authorities of hacking social networks and is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation in the country, until February 8. About two weeks ago, Nikulin was transferred from a prison to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Los Angeles for psychiatric evaluation so that doctors decide on whether the Russian national was able to appear before the court. The US Bureau of Prisons then asked the court to prolong the medical examination by 15 days. “The Bureau of Prisons’ request for a fifteen-day extension to complete the evaluation is GRANTED. The examiner’s report shall be provided to the Court by February 8, 2019,” the court’s ruling said. Nikulin was arrested in October 2016 in the Czech Republic and extradited to the United States, where he is accused of hacking into computers belonging to LinkedIn, Dropbox and the Formspring online services. Russian authorities, who charged Nikulin with Internet fraud in 2009, requested his extradition on the same day as the United States, but the Czech Justice Ministry granted the US request.
Nikulin has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
