SRINAGAR, May 3: Garkoot, a village in Uri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, is reeling under darkness for the past fifteen days and locals alleged that authorities are showing no interest in getting the damaged community transformer repaired.
Locals of the area said that the prevailing darkness has added to the miseries of residents. “More than fifteen days have passed since then, but there is no effort by the concerned officials to get the transformer repaired,” the locals complained.
They said that the transformer developed a technical snag last month. “The department took three days to lift the transformer for repairing. It has been more than 12 days since the transformer was taken for repairing. However, till date it was not brought back neither was any effort made to provide alternate transformer to restore power supply to the village,” they said.
The villagers lamented that they are facing immense hardships in absence of electricity and accused the Power Development Department (PDD) of being ‘indifferent’ to their woes. “Our school going children are suffering badly. We are unable to charge our mobile phones while students cannot study in evening,” they said.
While appealing local MLA to intervene personally in the matter, they threatened to take streets in case power supply is not restored immediately.
