JAMMU, May 3: Adding yet another feather in its cap, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran has featured in the list of top ten institutions from across India, in terms of filing patents, in the Annual Report published by the office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indicators, Government of India.
Ranked seventh, CGC Landran has taken the lead over premier private and public institutions like NITs, filing 30 patents in a single year. Till date, the institution has filed upto 100-plus, patents with more in the pipeline.
As per Government data, a total of 45,444 patent applications were filed this year indicating a 1.2 per cent increase over the previous year. Punjab and Chandigarh figured in the top filing States and Union Territories which also included Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Haryana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand Orissa, Assam, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.
This milestone, underscores the institution’s unrelenting efforts at nurturing and promoting the culture of innovation and research among its students and faculty. These patents were applied for by CGC’s Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department (14 filed), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department (10 filed), Mechanical Engineering (ME) (one filed) Department and Biotechnology Department (05 filed). Some of these unique innovations developed by CGC’s inventors include, a Biometric Ticketing System, an Air Purifier based on catalytic convertor, a CanSat (simulation of a real satellite) containing a container and glider capable of measuring atmospheric conditions, Sensorless Motion detector, GSM Enables Smart hat for the visually impaired, Drive chain cleaning and lubrication device, a water heating device working on biogas produced from household waste, Mobile Wireless Sensor network design for minimization of consumption of energy and fault, to name a few.
Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran said, “In this highly competitive world, research and innovation are the need of the hour. CGC has been taking many initiatives in this direction. This includes setting up an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell in collaboration with the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, which promotes innovation and entrepreneurship encouraging students to develop new and improve existing technologies.”
