JAMMU, Sept 8: A charitable Trust by the name of Unnati inaugurated its first Free Education Center for Rural India in Village Rehal, Jammu. Unnati aims at providing free computer education to the poor in rural India and ‘uplifting life through knowledge’.
Unnati also aims to provide practical hands-on training on computers to prepare its students to become an effective workforce member in the times to come. It is the brainchild of Sahil Gupta who is himself an accomplished IT professional, currently residing in the US and serving as a Chief Technology Officer for a multinational. Sahil Gupta is an Indian citizen who did his Bachelors from NIT Trichurapalli, Tamil Nadu before moving to the US in the year 2000. Rehal happens to be the ancestral village of  Sahil Gupta whose father, B. B. Gupta (Retd. SSP) used to live and study in Rehal.
While inaugurating Unnati, BJP State secretary, Aseem Gupta spoke eloquently about the benefits of providing computer education to the poor in rural India as this will serve as the basic criteria for entry into the workforce in the future. Sahil Gupta also spoke of how his practical understanding of the IT landscape can help this charity prepare students with the tools and training necessary to be able to earn a livelihood in the future.
The opening of Unnati was very well received by the members of the local society and a large number of people showed up at the opening ceremony.
It registered 35 students in the first three days of opening, ranging in age from 10 – 42 and has already started providing training to several of these students.
