Unlicensed sweets workshop sealed, 100 kg suspected Khoya seized

JAMMU, Oct 20: Food Safety wing of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Jammu today sealed workshop of a sweet shop which was being operated illegally without any license and also seized 100 kg suspected Khoya.
To keep check on adulteration in food items, particularly sweets in view of upcoming Diwali festival, a Food Safety team conducted surprised inspections at various sweet shops in Jammu city and other municipal areas.
The team of Food Safety officers headed by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu challaned workshops of Rajasthan Sweets, Nanak Nagar and Ram Dass Sweets and stopped their commercial activities as they were running the business and preparing sweets in unhygienic conditions. Moreover, workshop of Ramdass Sweets was sealed as they were running business without license.
Six samples of Khoya from Raghunath Bazar and Shalamar were also lifted and sent to food testing lab for analysis. One of the sweet shops were challaned for unhygienic conditions and 100 kg of suspected Khoya seized. Samples of sweets (gift items) were lifted from Easy Day and sent to food testing lab.
Besides this, seven vegetable shopkeepers were challaned for not maintaining the norms of FSS Act at Greater Kailash Morh. The milk and milk product sellers were made aware not to use any kind of adulterants or colour additives. Further, they were advised to use proper dress code, use caps and keep the infrastructure neat and clean.
