University teachers, Plus 2 lecturers call on Dr Jitendra

JAMMU, Sept 24: A delegation of University Teachers and Plus Two Lecturers today called on Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh and highlighted the problems of university teachers and Plus two lecturers before him.
The delegation, which was led by Dr Narender Singh, national secretary BJP sought immediate intervention of Union Minister in settling their issues.
The delegation comprises of teachers from Jammu University and SKUAST besides Plus Two lecturers. The delegation informed the Union Minister that there is no proper policy on education especially universities in the UT whose autonomy has been now totally snatched and this is a cause of concern for the teaching fraternity.
The delegation said that the term of VCs in CU, JU, SKUAST and Cluster University Kashmir has ended but no headway has been made in appointing new VCs. They said that the salary of teachers and other staff which was being drawn by University itself is now to be drawn from treasuries where bills are to be sent. Besides, the bills for project are also to be sent to treasuries. This way the autonomy of the universities has been snatched, they added.
The delegation said the protocol of the Vice Chancellors has been also lowered and it has been made lesser than a Director which is also a cause of concern for the teaching fraternity. This way there is a total mess in educations system of the UT and it needs the immediate attention, the delegation added.
Highlighting the issues of Plus Two lecturers the delegation said that they have no promotion prospects and lecturers are placed in one grade for over two decades. There is no proper promotion policy and even they are not being given the in-situ promotions.
The delegation said very less number of Plus Two lecturers reach to the level of Principals and CEOs while others retire on the same posts, which is an injustice with this cadre also. The delegation sought intervention of Union Minister in the matter.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured the delegation that he will take up the issue with concerned authorities.
