Leh, June 17: The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh chaired a meeting with the Secretary, Union Ministry of Textiles  Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Panda, Joint Secretary Sunaina Tomar and Chairman Carpet Export Promotion Council Kuldeep R. Wattal at the Council Secretariat today to review the progress of Pashmina Wool Development Scheme (PWDS) and Pashmina Promotion Programme (P-3).
CEC, put forth the issues and various natures of difficulties being faced for execution of the schemes in this sector. CEC talking about the importance of Pashmina as only source of income for the nomads urged upon the importance of full assistance to the beneficiaries through various schemes.
Dr. Panda assured CEC of all possible help for the benefit of the nomads and said that the funds for construction of new de-hairing plant will be released in a week’s time.
The decisions taken in this meeting included providing financial as well as feed, medicine and other assistance to the breeders; start up the work on the construction of a new de-hairing plant; special repair of the existing plant for its optimum utilisation; to identify two blocks for Common Facility Centres (CFC) for spinning of Pashmina identify two blocks in the District for establishment of CFC for carpet weaving purpose.
Chairman Carpet Export KR Wattal speaking about important aspects of traditional designing, natural colour and domestic & international exhibitions laid stress on introducing carpet weaving.
The meeting after a power point presentation by DSHO Dr. Iftikar Hussain & Technical Officer Dr. Namgyal had a barnstorming discussion on proposed and modified components under these schemes.
